Project Name: Durable Anti-Static Finishes Via Electroless Deposition
As the demand for synthetic fibers and faster processing speeds continues to rise, so does the need for durable antistatic treatments. Static accumulation during processing can cause clinging and irregularities in yarns, fabrics and films. Static accumulation in end products can cause discomfort from static discharge or clinging. Current durable antistatic treatments utilize the method of increasing the moisture regain of the material’s surface to assist in the dissipation of static. Another method is to modify the material’s surface to resist static generation; this method is expected to exhibit better functional durability. The purpose of this research is to measure the static control properties of current and developing antistatic treatments using conventional surface conductivity measurements and newly developed automated equipment to measure static generation and dissipation on nylon and polyester fabrics.
